Overview & Highlights

Welcome to Rosticceria 'Antico Borgo' di Menga Piero, an authentic gem located in the bustling heart of Cisternino, Italy. This rustic restaurant specializes in traditional Apulian cuisine, showcasing the rich flavors and culinary heritage of the region, and it's a must-visit for anyone who appreciates quality meat and a lively dining atmosphere.

Step inside this inviting eatery and you'll immediately feel the warmth radiating from the friendly staff and the welcoming ambiance filled with locals enjoying hearty meals. The dining space is a mix of rustic charm and family-friendly vibes, where the enticing aroma of grilled meats wafts through the air, beckoning you to dive into a feast of deliciousness.

Rosticceria 'Antico Borgo' prides itself on a unique dining experience: guests are invited to choose their meat from the butcher counter, ensuring you know exactly what goes onto your plate. This hands-on approach is not just engaging but allows for an ultra-fresh culinary experience. Imagine mouthwatering bombette (stuffed pork rolls) sizzling on the grill, the rich, fragrant spices infusing the air as they cook to perfection. The torcinelli, a local delicacy made from lamb intestines, and Braciole in pignata, tender meat rolls slow-cooked in clay pots, are just a couple of highlights that promise to leave you craving more.

But this restaurant is more than just meat; it places a significant emphasis on freshness. Diners rave about the freshly made pasta, vibrant salads, and delicious house antipasti, often made with local ingredients, bringing delightful textures and flavors to your table. The mixed veggie platter is a symphony of colors and tastes, complementing the richer meat dishes beautifully, and ensuring a balanced meal that even the most dedicated carnivores will appreciate.

That said, come prepared for generous portions! Customers often mention the abundance of food served, making it a great spot for sharing meals with family and friends. In fact, a reviewer named C. Russell shares the joy of choosing fresh cuts from the butcher next door, highlighting the incredible sausages and the value for money that Rosticceria 'Antico Borgo' offers.

It's worth noting, however, that while the food is indeed world-class, the staff may not be fluent in English. Therefore, brushing up on a few Italian phrases can elevate your experience and enhance your engagement with the charming servers. But fret not! Their enthusiasm and willingness to assist transcend any language barriers, as shared by Kurt Coffin, who found the staff both skilled and charming, making a memorable dining experience even better.

In summary, Rosticceria 'Antico Borgo' is a cherished locale for anyone seeking a taste of authentic Apulian flavors. With a focus on quality ingredients, a rustic yet welcoming atmosphere, and a dining experience that involves choosing your meal ahead of time, this restaurant is a true reflection of its culinary roots. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply indulging in a hearty meal, this establishment is sure to leave you thoroughly satisfied.

Everything here was shockingly delicious and very cheap. However, it should be noted that the staff may not speak English, so it may be helpful to know a few basic Italian words when ordering.

Great quality fresh meat that you choose at the butchers next door. The sausages were incredible! The local pasta and salads were fresh. A great place to share a meal. Great value for the quality!

They have good food (heavy) but slightly touristic. They adopt the “forno” concept that is very popular in Puglia, you choose you meat, like in the butcher, and they cook it for you. When the food arrived was freshly cooked, I liked it a lot... but just said that was a lot and couldn’t eat everything. The antipasto of the house (were few vegetables in vinegar) was good but nothing that blows the mind. They have good local beers and wine! Also, the plates and utensils are locally produced and are beautiful.

We just returned from a much anticipated visit to this fantastic restaurant, and was it ever a home run! We had skilled and charming servers who did a great job meeting our language barriers and patiently explained the menu. The main dining room was full of local families and we got a great table in the gorgeous second dining area with a few other families. We enjoyed the mixed veggie platter, donkey salumi (it's incredible) a one-pound donkey costata steak (bone in, boneless also available) and a boneless veal steak (pick your size, chop-style also available). We chose med-rare and medium respectively. This is top quality meat and cooked absolutely perfectly. Super tender, great char, not overdone. Veggies (marinated red onion, artichoke, and eggplant) were unique and fantastic. The charming and helpful staff were all smiles and efficiency. We came to Italy to enjoy local culture and interesting, premium food, and they nailed it in spades. We may adjust our Italy adventure just to come here again and try the rest of their offerings. If you're a carnivore from anywhere in the world, this is as good as it gets. Bravo and lifelong appreciation to the owners and staff for an unforgettable experience. See pics for details

Rosticceria "Fornello" Antico Borgo, Cisternino: A Must-Visit for Meat Lovers. If you're looking for an authentic apulian dining experience, look no further than Fornello Antico Borgo in Cisternino. This rustic restaurant serves up some of the best grilled meats in the region, including bombette (stuffed pork rolls), torcinelli (lamb intestines), and braciole in pignata (meat rolls cooked in a clay pot). We started our meal with a selection of antipasti, which included grilled vegetables, and cured meats. Everything was delicious, but the bombette were the real stars of the show. These savory rolls are stuffed with a variety of fillings, such as cheese, bread crumbs, and herbs. They are then grilled to perfection and served with a side of lemon (if you lke). We tried the torcinelli and the braciole in pignata. The torcinelli were cooked to perfection, with a slightly crispy exterior and a tender, flavorful interior. The braciole in pignata were slow-cooked in a rich tomato sauce, which infused the meat with incredible flavor. We ended our meal with an amazing Limoncello. Everything was delicious, and the perfect ending to a fantastic meal. Overall, Fornello Antico Borgo is a must-visit for any meat lover visiting Cisternino. The food is delicious, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an authentic apulian dining experience. Here are some other things to note about Fornello Antico Borgo: The restaurant is located in the historic center of Cisternino, so it's easy to walk to from many of the town's hotels and shops. The restaurant is open for dinner only, and it's always busy, so reservations are recommended. The restaurant has a small but well-chosen wine list, with a focus on local apulian wines. The prices are very reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food. If you're looking for a delicious and authentic apulian dining experience, Fornello Antico Borgo is the perfect place for you. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Cisternino.

Typical “non nonsense”-butcher-restaurant of Cisternino and surroundings where you choose your meat at the counter first which will then be grilled and taken to your table. Not for vegetarians but very good meat, good variety of bombette. Get your desert elsewhere - you’ll need a walk anyway after having inescapably eaten too much meat. You will order too much food at the counter, but there is always the option of the doggy bag. I had enough for two more days of lunch last time I ate here.

Extraordinary, i wish this restaurant was closer to my town. Its a must in cisterino
